Abstract

This paper presents a mathematical method named “Successive Explicitization Process (SEP)” that realizes considerable reduction in computing time required for the numerical reservoir simulation. The SEP attains the aimed reduction by successive and complete explicitization of the solution on a grid block basis during the multi-unknown Newton-Raphson iterative process. It economizes the reservoir simulation by not only the fully implicit technique but IMPES or SEQ substantially. The SEP could be used as a strong alternative of Adaptive Implicit Method proposed by G.W. THOMAS and D.H. THURNAU.Described here are the mathematical treatment of SEP and some example results which show its validity.
