Abstract

The development of control functions is necessary to the operation of modern automated distribution systems. These functions may be an efficient tool either in planning studies or in real-time operation. Among these functions is the ‘reconfiguration function’, which consists of transferring load between feeders by proper switching operations to reach a predefined objective. In this paper, an efficient reconfiguration algorithm is proposed. The algorithm aims to reduce power loss and is based on the loss change estimation method proposed by Civanlar and others. The proposed algorithm establishes switching operations to reduce power loss with minimum computational effort. The results obtained are very encouraging and show that the method is very robust, in spite of its simplicity. Finally, a simplified comparison between the loss reduction method and the traditional feeder load balance method is made.
