Abstract

This work discusses a new battery charging technique for PV array energized water pump with battery support. The developed battery charging/discharging technique improves the service life of the battery and efficiency of the overall water pumping system. The PV array is the main source to operate the drive and the battery storage system (BSS) is acts as a secondary source of power for the system. The MPPT technique to maximize the PV array power is implemented through a modified positive output Luo (POL) converter. The low input current ripple and high voltage transfer gain (VTG), are the main characteristics of the POL converter. The continuous inductor current mode (CICM) operation of the POL converter, improves the system performance to reduce the stress on their parameters. Test results endorse the effectiveness of the developed battery supported standalone water pumping system.
