Abstract

An optimized implementation of intermodulation radar with the increased classification performance is presented. The system is designed to include multiple sensors namely an intermodulation radar and an electromagnetic induction (EMI) sensor to reach the better classification results. The system is able to operate as harmonic radar (HR), intermodulation radar (IR) or intermodulation radar with an EMI sensor (IR-EMI). Integration of those sensors within a compact sensor head is demonstrated and a novel technique to reduce the self-detection of sensors is also given. A classification algorithm is developed to utilize all sensor data to extract more information about the target. The system is tested on some real targets and the classification performance is tabulated. Use of intermodulation radar is effective to increase the detection performance for semiconductor targets and EMI sensor helps to classify corrosive and metal targets better.
