Abstract

This work developed a green, safe, efficient, and inexpensive extraction method for ergosterol from Lentinus edodes stem (LES) using natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES). The effects of different parameters such as the type, molar ratio, and water content of NADES and ultrasonic conditions on the extraction yield of ergosterol were investigated by single-factor experiments. The NADES was analyzed by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), which proved that NADES was successfully synthesized. Compared with conventional organic solvents, the extraction efficiency of NADES was higher. The LES powder before and after extraction was characterized by a scanning electron microscope (SEM), demonstrating that NADES could release ergosterol better. The method had good linearity, precision and accuracy. In this study, NADES was recycled, and the extraction efficiency of ergosterol by NADES did not decrease significantly after seven cycles. In conclusion, the developed ultrasonic-assisted NADES can be a successful method for the extraction of ergosterol from LES.
