Abstract

ABSTRACT In large-scale campus networks, there exists significant requirements for exchanging a large amount mobile data. Smart mobile devices are facing the problem of long transmission time and large energy consumption when accessing the XML-based web services. Therefore, how to develop a novel web service model for reducing both time and energy consumption has become an important issue. In this paper, a data exchange model called CMDE is proposed. The proposed CMDE model is based on EXI (efficient extensible interchange) standard and adapts to smart mobile devices with limited resource. The set theory isused to describe the CMDE model formally, and the data process and system efficiency are also analyzed. In order to check the efficiency of the CMDE model, a prototype system is developed and deployed in real campus environment. The experiment shows that CMDE model performs better than traditional model with remarkable reduction of transmission data volume, bandwidth occupation and time consumption with out obvious increasing of battery consumption.
