Abstract

A new quiescent pattern control strategy for the generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC) structure is presented. The synthesis technique is based on the constrained optimization algorithm with a penalty function used to design the quiescent array. The proposed quiescent array beampattern is highly directional with which an effective cancellation of multiple interference signals can be achieved. The design technique also permits the adaptive dimension of the GSC to be reduced significantly while preserving the quiescent beampattern. Numerical results showed that the new GSC structure is able to reject strong directional interference as compared to the full processor.
