Abstract

This paper addresses technical issues in relation to a power management in a wind dominated hybrid remote area power supply (RAPS) system consisting of a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG), a diesel generator, hydrogen based generation scheme and mains loads. In this regard, hydrogen based generation scheme consists of an electrolyser and a fuel cell system is integrated to RAPS system. Moreover, this paper presents the development of control strategies for effective power management of the RAPS system which eventually contribute to achieve the following objectives (a) voltage and frequency regulation on load side (b) maximum power extraction from wind and (c) avoidance of the operation of diesel generator at low load conditions. Through simulation studies it is demonstrated that the proposed power management strategy for sharing load demand is capable of regulating the load side voltage and frequency within satisfactory limits while extracting maximum power from wind.
