Abstract

To systematize our gained experience that can support creating good practices for initiating the dialogue with the family regarding organ and tissue donation in the Republic of Moldova. A retrospective study, conducted within the PMSI “Sfinta Treime” MCH, between March 2014 and September 2021, that included a review of the discussions with 89 families who experienced an interview for organ and tissue donation, as a result of which 61 of them gave their consent. Thematic content analysis was used for data analysis. Three stages of the interview have been identified: 1st - acknowledgement of the death news, which shows the need to know the history of the disease and the treatment of deceased patients; 2nd - the stage of emotional support to the family of the deceased (mourning); 3rd - information about the donation with the request for organ/tissue donation. Professionals need to know the stages of the donation process and to respect the timespan given to families. Our experience indicates the need for team training, family respect, determined by the emotional support and extended time given to the family, with the use of a clear and simple language.
