Abstract

An effective hard-sphere model for the non-Newtonian viscosity of soft-sphere dispersions is used to analyse recent experimental data for small latices and microgels. The approach is shown to scale the concentration and shear stress dependence of the viscosity well. The scaling is performed in terms of an apparent, interparticle pair potential.
