Abstract
SummaryThe rate of intestinal transit affects the absorption of dietary iron. The parenteral administration of alpha adrenergic blocking agents or parasympathetic blocking agents significantly increases the absorption of iron by decreasing intestinal motility. That the intestinal transit of iron can play an important role in iron absorption is suggested by effects observed in both normal animals and animals with a decreased capability to absorb iron.
