Abstract

A robust, modular and flexible prototyping platform for teaching and researching switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives is proposed. It is composed of a power electronic building block, a driver board, a measurement and interface board and a DSP controller board. All these parts were purpose-built, except the DSP controller board, which is commercially available (dSPACE ACE kit 1104 CLP). The prototyping platform is a fast tool for designing, implementing and testing SRM drives. A course on SRM drives was designed on the basis of the platform's teaching capabilities. The usefulness of the prototyping platform is demonstrated by experimental results.
