Abstract

Adequate financial and physical performance is necessary for the survival of any entity in an economic system. Government of Rajasthan undertaken the Jaipur Metro Rail Project and started its operation in June 2015 through Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation Limited in order to remove various bottlenecks relating to urban transportation system and bring some relief to its people. However, despite of various efforts with reference to facilities, services and other social benefits due to Jaipur Metro Rail System in Jaipur City, the Metro Rail failed to attract passengers i.e. failed to generate enough travel demand amongst existing commuters as compared to estimated/projected revenue generation and travel demand, and thus the operation is non-viable in current scenario. On the other hand, number of users are declining day by day. Thus, in this paper an attempt is being made for economic analysis of Jaipur Metro Rail as Mass Rapid Transit System in order to find out appropriate solution to increase number of commuters and also to solve existing urban transportation problem especially with reference to Jaipur City.
