Abstract
The present investigation was conducted in northern districts of Haryana having largest area under mango cultivation. Information was extracted from 30 mango growers of two districts through personal contact. Budgeting technique and various economic tools were employed for estimation of cost of production and economic feasibility of mango cultivation. The findings revealed that mango growers incurred losses during the initial five years after plantation of mango. The income accrued from mango orchard in the sixth year and showed increasing trend up to the tenth year and thereafter it became stagnant throughout the expected life of 30 years. The NPV at 12 per cent discount rate was estimated to be `286884 and 213763 per acre in Yamunanagar and Panchkula districts for the expected entire period of the orchard. Further, B-C ratio (1: 3.94 and 1: 3.22), IRR (29.19 and 26.06) and payback period (8 and 9) of mango cultivation in both districts indicated that mango orchard is a profitable proposition.
