Abstract

Examination of bud mite distribution on shoots for 10 weeks after bud burst showed that the new season's overwintering buds were colonized one week after bud burst. It is recommended that acaricide be applied immediately after bud burst when the mites are not protected inside the buds. Colonization of the new overwintering buds coincided with an annual peak in bud mite reproduction. Three predacious mite species occurred wherever bud mites were exposed between bud burst and penetration of the new season's overwintering buds.
