Abstract
A 1.2 m Echelle spectrograph designed for an image dissector tube with a 100 mm photocathode diameter is described. The spectral resolution is about 300 000 at 500 nm. Two mountings with different wavelength ranges are discussed. Formulas for elimination of astigmatism through non-collimated illumination of the dispersive components are given. By using many orders of the order sorter grating the distance between the orders of the Echelle grating can be increased. The spectral images are studied by ray tracing and illustrated by spot diagrams.
