An easy and accurate approximation to the integrated compton cross section for the scattering of polarized X-rays into an arritrarily placed circular aperture

Abstract

The Thomson and Compton cross sections or the scattering X-rays integrated over the solid angle of a circular aperture placed at an arbitrary position has been reported in a previous paper. In this paper a simple approximation to the integrated Compton cross section is presented which uses corrections to the integrated Thomson cross section. The approximation is compared to previously published integrations of the Compton cross section. The results are simple enough that the incoherent scattering cross section can be calculated with only a tabulation of the incoherent scattering functions and a pocket calculator.
