Abstract

Measurement and specification are important aspects of the ‘classical’ engineering disciplines, so why not software engineering? This question is particularly pertinent when considering the development of safety-critical systems. This paper describes a technique which, via the use of specification, measurement and basic statistics, can provide the project manager with a useful aid for controlling such complex and costly developments. The concept of an early warning method is proposed.
