Abstract

One of the main problems in theoretical analyses of linear induction pumps is the derivation of the induced flow profiles. We consider the steady-state incompressible flow of a viscous fluid due to an assumed axisymmetric body force. The Stokes solutions obtained may be employed to discuss some of the design points for those linear induction pumps where this force approximates the exact induced Lorentz body force. The neglected inertia terms indicate that the linear solutions remain valid for sufficiently small source currents.
