Abstract

VARIOUS methods of collecting semen from male domestic fowels have been described. Burrows and Quinn (1937) have reviewed the most important of these methods and also described their abdominal massage method of ejaculation.During the course of some studies of fowl semen at the Missouri Agricultural Experiment Station, it was desired to collect semen from males in the breeding pens under as near natural conditions as possible. To facilitate this the semen collector shown in Figure 1 was devised. The collector is made by cutting off the base of a 125 c.c. Pyrex Erlenmeyer flask. The cup thus formed should be about 2.5 cm. in depth. A piece of no. 18 or 20 copper or steel wire is then place around the glass cup and held in place by adhesive tape (Fig 1-B).
