Abstract

ABSTRACT GRASSES are difficult to establish from seed on both pasture and rangeland, but grass seedlings grown in the greenhouse and transplanted to the field usually establish successful stands. The plastic bandoleer offers a way to mechanize all phases of growing and transplan-ting grass plants. Recent developments of our bandoleer metering concept are described. Field tests show that transplants established more successful grass stands under drought stress than conventional seeding. We found that the plastic casing could be left on the root plug, thus making transplanter development much easier.
