Abstract
The aim of the present paper is to develop a novel light control system for the camera barcode reader. Barcodes are printed on several products and applications which create reading problems when a conventional camera barcode reader is used to scan these barcodes. This problem emerges as a result of uneven light and reflection caused by the barcode surface. To overcome this problem, an automatic light control system is prominent. The study carried out in this paper is to design a unique system that will automatically control the light intensity of the camera back light unit based on the barcode conditions that is being scanned. The system has been designed in such a way that, the camera lens captures the barcodes and sends an appropriate signal to the light control circuit to perform suitable actions. In this study, an Arduino Uno board is used as a controller unit to implement light control strategies. Laboratory experiments had been conducted to validate the efficiency of the designed automatic light control circuit.KeywordsBack lightCamera barcode readerArduino Uno controller
