Abstract

In this paper, we present an automatic light communication system for vessel. Light communication is a conventional communication mean which has been used in vessel for several years. Light communication has little to do with the surrounding environments. What is more, electromagnetic interference (EMI) has no impact on light communication, which is kernel for military application. Also light communication has a somehow long distance. However, it takes a long time for traditional light communication system to translate even a short message, and most of the work is done by human, some work such as sending and receiving signals must be done by well-trained artificer. Because of some inescapable human reasons, some mismatch signal in the process of sending and receiving may cause some fatal mistake and failure. To avoid the demerit of traditional light communication system, an improved light communication system for vessel is presented. In the proposed light communication system, the sending and receiving process is automatic and controlled by computer, both the communication speed and accuracy is improved, without the loss of merits of traditional light communication system. Some experimental results show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed communication system.
