Abstract

An apparatus is described which was constructed for automatic measurement of the adsorption isotherms of water vapour on hygroscopic materials. It has been applied to the study of the adsorption of water by homoionic cation-exchanged forms of montmorillonite clay. Nevertheless the principles are sufficiently general for the technique to be applied to other condensible vapours or fixed gases and other substrates.
