Abstract

Over the past few years, with the prevalence of smart mobile devices and progress of positioning technologies, several well-known museums and researchers have developed mobile navigation systems with location-aware service. But most of those systems support outdoor GPS positioning function only, or indoor positioning function is provided but range and accuracy are not good enough, as well as location-aware service is limited. In this paper, we presented an augmented reality mobile navigation system, which supporting useful location-aware service based on proposed iBeacon assisted indoor positioning mechanism. This system can detect user's location and visit time, and analyze the crowd distribution of visitors in exhibition rooms, further recommend the appropriate navigation and location information to the user in real time. Moreover, combined with the developed augmented reality representation functions, this system can enrich and improve visitor's navigation experience effectively.
