Abstract

Warning pedestrians of oncoming vehicles is very important for improving pedestrian safety. Due to the limitation of the pedestrian’s carrying ability, it is crucial to find an effective solution to present warnings to pedestrians correctly and effectively. There have been many studies focused on vehicle warning systems, but studies focusing on the graphic user interface of pedestrian warning systems are limited. An Augmented Reality (AR) user interface was developed based on user characteristics and use scenarios. The necessary warning information was presented using a User Interface (UI) through a combination of potential risks path and collision point. Participants feedbacks indicate that 88% of the participants can understand the design of the interface with minor confusion and 98% of the warning information in the interface can be understood easily. This design can further used for different AR warning for pedestrians.
