Abstract

The massive industrialization over the past decades brought to Taiwan many side effects. Among others, the deterioration of the long treasured Chinese culture and value system, and the rapid increase of unethical practices lead to a deep concern of the engineering professionals. The recent introduction of professional ethics into the engineering curriculum was one of the counteractive measures taken so far. For the purpose of further promotional actions, a survey was taken recently over the university engineering teachers in Taiwan. Questions such as degree of exposure, extent of understanding, position on teaching of ethics in engineering, general perception of ethics in its basic sense etc. are addressed in this survey. Presented in this paper are summarized data, analysis and observations drawn from this survey.
