Abstract

A device for sensing the attitude of an arbitrarily located object has been developed by the Polar Geophysical Institute, Kola Research Center, Russian Academy of Sciences, for carrying out geophysical research. The device is capable of determining three angular coordinates of an object: the angles of roll and pitch with respect to the Earth’s horizontal plane and the azimuth angle with respect to the direction toward the magnetic north. The measurement range of the azimuth is from −180° to 180° with an error of ≤1°. The angles of roll and pitch can be measured in the range from −60° to 60° with an error of ≤0.5°. The device is reliable and easy to operate.
