Abstract

Introduction: Transseptal puncture for left heart catheter or atrial septal defect closure represents a highly standardized routine intervention in interventional cardiology. However, malpuncture is rare but can be life threatening. Here we report the case of a fatal malpuncture of the intraatrial septum resulting in a pericardial effusion with a haemodynamic effective tamponade requiring urgent cardiac operation for life saving.
