Abstract

This is the third in a series of papers devoted to a model describing tunnel fire events (see [I. Gasser and J. Struckmeier, Math. Methods Appl. Sci., 25 (2002), pp. 1231–1249] and [I. Gasser, Math. Methods Appl. Sci., 26 (2003), pp. 1327–1347]). Here the transient behavior of the model is studied. In particular the stability of stationary solutions is analyzed. A good understanding of related bifurcation phenomena is obtained (at least numerically). This accelerates progress in the study of the stability of flow conditions in tunnels during a tunnel fire.
