Abstract
Don't get sucked into someone else's game! That was a bit of cynical yet savvy advice I received years ago from a weary teacher on the first day of my MSW internship. The placement was in a school program with adolescents having a history of legal and/or emotional problems. Many students were provocative as a means of getting people to engage with them and their skit would go through a predictable storyline of escalation, warnings, consequences, general emotional trauma liberally shared by all, and then begin again. The implicit story line or sequence of events had long since been habituated as a part of everyone's working relationship and the outcome eternally negative, though predictable.
