Abstract

Electrolyte solutions and 5 per cent albumin solutions, along with blood, are equally capable of restoring the circulation. The argument for saline solution in the treatment of oligemic shock is based in part on experimental evidence which suggests that sodium requirements are increased during shock. Furthermore, there is no evidence that the use of electrolyte solution is associated with the development of pulmonary edema.
