Abstract

The new-area detector diffractometer features a double-crystal fixed exit monochromator with 700 mm between the white beam and the monochromatic beam, a 6-axis goniometer, a high count rate parallax-free multiwire proportional chamber with a crystal-to-detector distance of 580 mm, a charge-integrating beam monitor and a data acquisition system built up from CAMAC modules. We describe the design, testing and performance of this instrument which is designed to collect high resolution and multiwavelength diffraction data from macromolecular crystals.
