Abstract

This paper delineates a recurrent architectural pattern—unnoticed up to now—observed in late fourth-millennium BC strata at the Iranian sites of Susa, Tal-i Malyan, and Godin Tepe. On the basis of this evidence, the article proposes some considerations for understanding aspects of the period characterised by the so-called “Proto-Elamite phenomenon”.
