Abstract
ABSTRACTDuring December, 1957, the National Park Service undertook a survey of the proposed Painted Rocks Reservoir area near Gila Bend, Arizona to determine the amount of archaeological material that might be destroyed by construction activities and water impoundment. A number of sites of the Hohokam and Hakataya cultures were recorded, the latter representing groups ancestral to the historic Maricopas and Kaveltcadom. Archaeological salvage excavation, recommended for a number of sites, was undertaken by the Arizona State Museum under contract with the National Park Service.
