Abstract

An arabinogalacto(4- O-methylglucurono)xylan with a DP n of ca. 96 has been isolated from the leaves of barley. Based on structural studies it is proposed that the hemicellulose consists of a main chain of β (1→4)-linked d-xylopyranosyl residues to which are attached an average of 8·1 l-arabinofuranosyl residues, 3·8 galactopyranosyl-(1→4)- d-xylopyranosyl-(1→2)- l-arabinofuranosyl residues and 4·4 4- O-methyl- d-glucopyranuronosyl residues.
