Abstract
A multidimensional approach is proposed for the study of burnout in professional care providers. The approach depicts relationships between care provider, human service organization and recipient of care in the development of burnout in the providers of human services. This article is both a literature review and a description of a new conceptualization based on, but not limited to, existing literature.
