Abstract

This practical talk covers a range of bony lesions that are often initially characterised on plain radiographs. A discussion of radiological features pertaining to aggressive or non-aggressive properties, thereby allowing generation of a radiological differential diagnosis, is undertaken. This is then correlated with a series of cases managed at Middlemore Hospital, the site of the New Zealand Bone and Soft Tissue Tumour Registry. The disease entities covered range from benign to malignant, and primary to secondary. Cases include examples of fibrous dysplasia, Langer-hans cell histiocytosis, giant cell tumour of bone, non-ossifying fibroma, osteoid osteoma, osteoblastoma, aneurysmal bone cyst, simple bone cyst, osteomyelitis, chondroblastoma, chondromyxoid fibroma and bone metastasis.
