Abstract

In this paper, a practical approach towards evaluating form deviations of 2D curve contour profiles based on discrete coordinate measurement data is proposed. Using this approach, the evaluation precision of the form deviation can be sufficiently guaranteed. The approach is easy and convenient for engineering applications. A practical evaluation example for a planar cam profile is also shown. All of the form deviations of the cam profile obtained by the minimum zone criterion (MZC) satisfy the geometrical condition of the MZC resolution and are obviously smaller than those obtained by the least square criterion.
