Abstract

To estimate the magnetic anisotropy constants (K1, K2) in a CoCrPt recording layer coexisting with a NiFe soft magnetic underlayer (SUL) in a double-layered perpendicular magnetic recording medium, application of ferromagnetic Hall effects measurement technique has been approached. Measurement of Hall voltage under the tilted magnetic field was found to be effective to surmount the difficulties in the anisotropy measurement of such a double-layered medium frequently confronted with the conventional method such as the torque magnetometry. Hall voltage response from the SUL was found to have significant effect in the determination process of K2, which necessitated the careful adjustment of the applied field direction during the measurement.
