Abstract
A method to estimate continuous distributions obtained from an experiment in the form of a linear combination of cubic B -splines is considered. An algorithm to choose the optimal number of splines, their coefficients and errors is proposed. The method can also be applied to detector resolution functions and acceptance (obtained by Monte Carlo methods) smoothing when solving the unfolding problem.
