Abstract
Abstract This chapter highlights the importance of maternal and child oral health and outlines some of the factors affecting oral healthcare access and outcomes among women and children. It discusses factors affecting the oral health of pregnant mothers and the relationship between maternal and child oral health. It examines how increased integration of oral healthcare services into primary care and other nondental settings can help improve child and maternal oral health and overall health. The chapter outlines professional associations and scientific organizations’ guidelines for integrating oral health services in primary care and nondental settings. It also offers practical tips for medical providers seeking to offer oral health screenings and preventive treatments in their practices and to increase referrals to dental homes.
