Abstract

In this paper, a simplified modelling method for mechanisms with elastic links is presented, which is based on the reduction of each elastic link to a one degree of freedom (dof) oscillator. The oscillators are being connected with the kinematic transfer functions of the mechanism to an n-dof vibration model. This method leads for different mechanisms to the same vibration models. To take advantage of this fact, the equations of motion are evaluated in symbolical form and stored together with the model parameters of the corresponding mechanism in a model library. This method and the simulation package VASP (Vibration Analysis Software Package) have been developed at the Institute of Mechanism and Machine Dynamics (Director Prof. Dr.-Ing. G. Dittrich) at RWTH Aachen in Germany. Last but not least, an experimental verification of the modelling method will be presented, using a cam follower mechanism with an elastic drive shaft. The modelling procedure, the evaluation of the model parameters as well as a comparison of simulation and measurement results are shown.
