Abstract

In this paper, we introduced an approach for designing an airborne receiver used in the proposed landing system based on Software Defined Radio (SDR) platform. The proposed system utilizes the beam coding technique in order to generate multiple shifted-angle beams toward the aircraft. To determine the position in both range and deviation angle, an airborne receiver employs a cross correlator to acquire position information. The implementation of the receiver involves software design, building, and testing on a Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) device and LabVIEW environment. Practical results show the usefulness of the receiver for the application in the landing system and the potential development of SDR in the avionics area.
