Abstract

This paper presents an approach based on the Robotics Operation System (ROS) to integrate different types of services on an Intelligent House Services System (IHSS). The proposed system enhances the common concept of domotics by incorporating physical agents, i.e. autonomous service robots. Mobile robots can move on the environment and modify it, but also interact with inhabitants of the house in a closer way; therefore the system will have an increase in the services provided. Our IHSS approach is composed of two subsystems: a) a house master-server and b) at least one intelligent mobile service robot. Similarly, as robot communicate and control its hardware; the house master-server deals with all home embedded devices, for example lights, air conditioning and fire-detectors. Communication between subsystems is performed using tools provided on ROS. A conceptual approach and a preliminary implementation for validation of the IHSS concept are presented.
