Abstract

In this paper Routh canonical form is derived for a general class of characteristic polynomials having roots with nonpositive real parts. This canonical form has real entries which are derived from a Routh array. These matrices provide a link between RLC networks and their state space models, and a procedure is given for generating an RLC network from a specification of its characteristic equation. The procedure does not require the roots of the characteristic polynomial to be known.
