Abstract

FEM analysis becomes a important tool in the metal forming field. When a forming analysis by FEM is performed, contact treatment becomes an important problem. In this research, a contact treatment by penalty method is achieved, and efficiency of this method is confirmed.This method is applied to tool surfaces which are expressed by B-spline patches. The B-spline patch is known as a conventional method to express arbitrary surface, and widely used in computer graphics field or CAD field. Using the B-spline patch, the tool is designed by smooth surface, and it has the possibility to use the tool surface which is designed by CAD system.
