Abstract

The article discusses nonprofit organizations and certification. Nonprofit organizations, as a means for remaining competitive and gaining competitive advantage, become certified, or accredited. These certified nonprofit organizations are then able to gain public trust and are differentiated from other nonprofits in a manner which can grant them greater resources. There are 20 U.S. states which offer nonprofit certification programs including Louisiana where the program is run by the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations and was established in 2004. The Louisiana program also helps nonprofits to maintain their quality of service due to standardized requirements.
