Abstract

A MIMO antenna of size 40mm × 40mm × 1.6mm is proposed for WLAN applications. Antenna consists of four mushroom shaped Apollonian fractal planar monopoles having micro strip feed lines with edge feeding. It uses defective ground structure (DGS) to achieve good isolation. To achieve more isolation, the antenna elements are placed orthogonal to each other. Further, isolation can be increased using parasitic elements between the elements of antenna. Simulation is done to study reflection coefficient as well as coupling between input ports, directivity, peak gain, efficiency, impedance and VSWR. Results show that MIMO antenna has a bandwidth of 1.9GHZ ranging from 5 to 6.9 GHz, and mutual coupling of less than −20dB.
