Abstract

At the second periodontal surgical procedure, the patient had an anaphylactoid reaction immediately after the periodontal dressing had been applied. This report illustrates the potential antigenicity of periodontal surgical dressing. The dressing was applied at two separate times after periodontal surgical procedures were performed two weeks apart. The patient had an anaphylactoid reaction immediately after the administration of the surgical dressing for the second surgery. The administration of drugs to counteract the symptoms elicited by the anaphylactoid reaction is mentioned. The patient’s history of allergies is discussed. This report is intended to alert dentists to the possible antigenicity of periodontal surgical dressing.
